Great weekend, this past one was! Minus the three hour car ride down to Wildwood (I have only myself to blame for that, and maybe the 3,543 million other people driving on the AC expressway), but seriously I left at the worst possible time and I knew that. But I got to go to the gym in the morning and that was most important. Running = ultimate goal and importance so I need to keep that in the back of my mind with all my decision making until I get over this injury.
Anyway…. got down to the Angelastro’s and we were off to the boat!! Psyched because I don’t think I got to do this at all last year. Miss the fam… miss the shore, miss the boat, miss FUN! It was really a different feeling this time being down there. A good feeling. And really just normal. The ‘new normal’, and it felt good, peaceful and as if things were just like this all along.
We took the boat and two jetski’s out to Champagne Island. It was perfect weather, that water was warm and clear.
The guys, hugging it out on the jetski…
Rebecca doing gymnastics on the beach…
The ride home, always so relaxing.
Beach Creek for dinner. A perfect sunset, great drinks… amazing food and good company of course!
I even got to lay in bed on Sunday morning and drink coffee and watch the Woman’s Marathon. (a LOT to talk about on this –> SO dissapointed that Desi Davila had to back out due to hip pain, and Shalane Flanagan didn’t get to medal) Thanks Renee for letting me take over your room. 🙂
This was a total picture post but I wasn’t feeling very creative today.
WORKOUT – Tuesday is the new ‘rest day / juice day’ (talk about this later)
Knowing me and the big huge dork that I am — of course I was super excited when my juicer came in the mail the other day! Yay! and yay for them actually leaving it inside the door so I don’t have to chase down the UPS man. Here it is in all it’s glory…
I stopped on my way home and bought a whole bag of carrots and threw them in. I expected it to sound like a food processor but instead it kinda sounded like a fan. Carrots everywhere! A few little pieces flew out of the cracks but all of a sudden sweet, rich juice came pouring out. Amazing, I am hooked. I love it and can’t wait to try more. A whole bag of carrots yields about 8oz of juice. Creamy orange, it looks and smells so healthy and delicious!
Nothing like a yoga workout and a nice 5 miler to wake you up on a dreary day. Got a lot accomplished so far this morning.
So apparently Colin Farrell has been working out at my gym. He’s been to a few of the spin classes and my yoga instructor had him in his spin class the other day. He said he’s super nice and stayed after to take pics with everyone. Damn – why do I not like cycling again? One time when I would actually enjoy it!! Sitting next to Colin in class would be pretty sweet. I just might have to sign up next week 🙂
Anyway… they are filming a movie a few blocks away from my apartment. The movie is supposed to be set in NYC so they changed the street signs and parked cars with NY license plates. This is pretty cool but also annoying. Some of the main streets are closed and the movie trailers are taking up precious parking spots. Not going to lie though I do go a block or so out of my way sometimes just to walk by and see if I see anyone. Ok – so anyone that I would actually recognize. Yesterday I was coming out of South Moon Under on Chestnut St and almost literally ran into Terrance Howard as he was walking into his trailer. Luckily I asked someone ‘who the hell is that?’ when everyone was screaming at him on the street the other day. So this time I knew. Not that exciting, but whatev… probably better than anything else that happened yesterday. New York, or Philly?? …
Ok, so onto running. Things have been going pretty good. I’m slowing getting my way back in without pushing it too much. And I came up with a nice plan for the next few weeks where I’m actually following the rules and only increasing my mileage by 10% a week. So far, so good…
WORKOUT – yoga class (no Colin 😦 ) , 5 miles
Haven’t done a ‘things I’m obsessed with this month’ post in a while. And what better time to talk about love then February. I’ve always loved Valentine’s day… I’m not even really sure why. Who doesn’t love, roses, pink and red, and chocolate? Maybe that’s why. Anyway… here are some things I love lately…
1.New Nike rain jacket 2.VS lipgloss in ‘Slice of Heaven’ 3.Trail running 4.Looking forward, being nervous, anxious, scared, excited for another marathon!!! 5.Planning an upcoming vacay (done and done… and who would have thought, Vegas. 6.Planning my 30th B-day extravaganza 7.More blonde 8.THIS song 9.and THIS song 10.Enjoying one glass of wine, instead of downing a whole bottle 11.Tiff’s key necklaces 12.V-day (of course!) 13.Learning about the heart 14.This day in February 15.Red nails, red lips 16.Flannel shirts – especially when they are not my own 17.Kale 18.Chocolate covered espresso beans 19.Chocolate covered anything 20.Life (had to throw that one in there again for good measure – it’s been a while)
Yes it’s true… I was hoping it would be raining today! Why? Because I was heading to BMRC to pick up my new Nike rain jacket and hit up some trails. Haven’t really done any official trail running yet – craziness, I know… you’d think I’d be all over that. Well, I will be now because I loved it! Being out in the middle of the woods, running in the mud, climbing over rocks and trees. It’s the best. And a great way to get a different workout in. You’re running a lot slower, using more of your core muscles and smaller, and larger muscles that wouldn’t normally get worked on an average run.
Running in the rain is always something I’ve enjoyed. As long as it isn’t freezing. So today, the weather was perfect. Pretty warm out, a decent steady rain on and off. And all the mud on the trails was definitely fun.
7 miles of trails feels like a lot more than it is. My legs felt great after (minus a little knee pain), but I felt muscles I hadn’t felt in a while. Score.
THIS VIDEO is hilarious! And seriously so true. All the things that go through your mind when you are running 26.2 miles. From mile 1 to the end, there’s a lot to think about in there…
I had all intentions of posting about my run today which was a great workout. BUT I picked up the January/February issue of Women’s Health at CVS while waiting for my prescription and I saw this guy. LOVE him! So this is super short and super sweet today. Plus I am really tired. I think everything is catching up to me because it was a tough day, day number 10… tomorrow will be an easy day to gear up for my long run on Friday!
Couldn’t wait to head up to the mountains this weekend. Although… waking up at 5:30am on a Saturday, NOT to run but to sit in a car for 2.5 hours is not my idea of a fun morning. Good thing I stopped and got SB on Friday to re-heat and bring with me. Yes… I am that crazy about my SB. Plus my Dad likes to make coffee half and half (half decaf and half regular) – really? what is the point of that? Anyway, I slept the whole way up which was awesome and we got to the lake house around 10am. Right to bed I went to take a two-hour nap.
Then the outside fun began! The weather was perfect (cold, but sunny and nice out). The only way to hang outside in the winter is to bundle up, drink something warm and hang by the fire. Perfect excuse to invent a new drink. Eggnog, coffee, and rum – heat it up in a mug and you are all set. And here’s a tip – if you want to stay extra warm, add extra rum.
Dad and I hung outside by the fire, reflecting on life, playing with the Murphster and taking pictures of “Harry Calloway” – don’t ask. It’s a long story and I wasn’t there anyway so I’m not even really sure how this one unfolded. Although I have a sneaky suspicion it started with a bottle of JB.
I didn’t take too many pictures of all the food this weekend, probably because I ate all of it. But that’s pretty much all we did, ate… hung out, relaxed, laughed.
At night we watched movies on the ‘big screen’ which I’m pretty sure is some type of X-ray equipment set up as a projector. Either way, cool and fun. And apparently also very tiring. Or maybe it was all the cookies.
For whatever reason I got the great idea that I wanted to jump in the lake on Sunday and do a little polar bear plunge. I had everything planned that I was going to go for a run in the morning, around the lake and then jump in it. Well… woke up Christmas morning and the lake was starting to freeze. Probably better not to get hypothermia anyway. Maybe next year.
Instead I took Murph out for a hike around the lake. The road turned into a dirt road which turned into a trail, and then a stream? Definitely would love to get some trail running sneakers and come back and do this again soon. I wasn’t sure about which way to go, so I kind of just winged it and hoped for the best. At one point I was a little nervous because there were a bunch of ‘no trespassing’ signs and I was literally in the middle of the woods. If it wasn’t for my little guard dog I would have been a little scaredy cat. Luckily we came to a dead-end and then climbed to the top of a hill and we saw a normal road again. Yay civilization! Sort of. 6.17 miles later and we were back at the house. I WILL be running this next time I’m up there.
