Running Rocks

Harvey E. Forsyth Jr. August 6th 1974-November 30th 2010

God saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, ‘come with me’. With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating your tender hands at rest, God took you home to prove to us, he only takes the best.

I never thought I would have to write this but Harv lost his battle today. After about a year (knowingly for 9 months), Harv has been fighting hard!! There are no words to express how grueling and shocking the last few days have been. Harvey did all he could, but took a turn for the worst this past Saturday. He was so ready to rest and go home…

Just some thoughts I wrote about this time last year… I think I might need to start taking my own advice.

Running Rocks

Here are some things I have learned this past year…

It is so important to have an amazing group of family and friends who loves and cares about you. New and old…

Never underestimate the power of survival, instinct and perseverance.

You are MUCH stronger than you think, and never say you can’t handle something. Because you can.

Be grateful for every opportunity that you are given, large or small and embrace it.

Determination and grit will get you anywhere.

Love yourself and your life because you are the first one that matters and the only one that you can count on.

Enjoy every moment of each day, travel, experience life.

Live what you love and good things will come.

Be happy, smile and celebrate often.

It Doesn’t get More American than this

Sums up most of the weekend up the mountains. No time to write a full post yet because I am too busy studying and feeling bad for myself this week.

WORKOUT – 3miles, TRX, 1hour bike, yoga

Memory Lane Monday – Braces

Two years of these bad boys and wearing a retainer for life. Totally worth it!

Attack of the Green Monster

Heeeee’s baaaaaaaack! I forgot how much I missed my green smoothies! AND pretty much eating healthy in general. It’s amazing how good you feel even after just a few days of good healthy solid eating. Seriously, why haven’t I been doing this the past few months again instead of just talking about it? Ok, let’s not go there, let’s just look ahead. Quick post today since I’m busy procrastinating studying. But had a GM today for lunch and an awesome workout for the second day in a row. Pain free, I might add. Off to take a test and get my weekend starting.

WORKOUT – yoga, 30min bike, TRX (obsessed!!)

Recovery Hurts

Yes… we all know this. Holding back on your runs when you really want to push it is one of the hardest things to do. Heading out to run 3 miles when you really want to run 13, probably even harder. I’m getting annoyed lately because I JUST WANT TO RUN. Which I am, and I’m happy that I can, but I know I have to take it slow so I don’t keep having issues.

And let’s get serious about this. One month til Memorial Day Weekend. Neeeeeeeeeed to start eating healthy on a regular basis. Workin on that this week and stepping back into running. Oh yeah and studying. Hopefully I have a successful week with all of these.

WORKOUT – 5 miles, 1 hour bike, yoga

Testing, testing…. 1, 2, 3miles

Test run today! Went fairly well I would say. As I mentioned yesterday the Achilles and Plantar stuff has been feeling pretty decent the past few days so I figured I’d test out a run today to see if I could get back into it or if this is a more serious issue.

No music, big old sweatshirt so that the run didn’t feel too serious. Definitely tough to get started but I blame that on the stupid shot last night. It’s always ONE too many that puts it over the edge. I need to learn that yes it’s ok to say no to a shot, whether someone buys it for you or not, no one is forcing it down your throat. And you always have to keep YOUR goals, wants and needs PRIORITY and not try to please other people all the time. Because in the end you’re the only one that can make you happy. Anyway… that’s another whole issue, probably for the therapist.

So… I was concentrating hard on how my body felt. A tiny bit of pain in the Achilles around 0.38 and my left hamstring was tight but that’s from TRX. Slow and steady and then picked it up and tested out a faster pace at the end. So far so good! We’ll see what later brings and how tomorrow goes.

Nice little post run smoothie that I was craving! Does it make it less healthy if you drink your breakfast out of a beer glass? #representwisconsin

WORKOUT – yoga class, 3 miles

Starbucks and the Digestive System

Lots of coffee… lots of studying. Plan to not see or hear from me much in the next two weeks with finishing up my class. A&P 2 is a lot harder than A&P 1 was… that is for sure. And procrastination doesn’t help me much.

Today was the first day that I woke up and put pressure on my foot without shooting pain in my Achilles. Yay to that! Most of the swelling has gone down and I pretty much bruised up my whole Fibularis Brevis and Longus (I pretend like I know what I’m talking about) muscles. Yoga this morning felt perfectly normal except a few twists and turns. So I’m considering doing a test run tomorrow to see how it feels after that. Original plan with TNT was to run 16 on Saturday. Not gonna happen unless I feel amazeballs tomorrow. Doubt it. However if I am only running the Halfer in Lake Placid (which is probably the smart move) then I really only need to run 7-10ish. Main concern right now – getting fully better and being able to run without any pain. Always and excellent goal. Half or Full LP, NY will still be amazing and I have to remember the real REASON why I am running in the first place.

All I’ve been doing is this… notice the Grande size today. Sbux=Crack.

When all I want to do is this… and also just discovered a super amaze trail run this summer which I am slowly becoming obsessed with. Running=Addiction.

WORKOUT – yoga class, TRX

Ice, Stick, Repeat…

And some yoga. This has been my life for the past few days. And will probably continue on for another week or so. Ok… so throw a Phillies game and a Flyer’s play off game in there and that’s about it for real. Still having a lot of pain and swelling in my Achilles but it started feeling a little better today. Woke up and I couldn’t really walk but after the whirlpool and the sauna and lots of stretching/yoga it loosened up. I even took a chance and did TRX – so we’ll see how this bad boy feel’s tomorrow. Fingers crossed this is fixing itself with lots of rest. A few more days of feeling it out and hopefully I’ll have a running plan set in place again soon.

Get ready for more crappy cell phone pics.

Peas and Edamame…

Edamame and Pineapple…

WORKOUT – yoga, TRX

Honey Stinger

Super stoked to REPRESENT!! Applied for sponsorship from my fav energy source and got it. Score to representing them during my races and using more of their amazing products. GO HERE and buy stuff. I will bee!!

Fun stuff to come and lots to look forward to. This means I need to rehab my Achilles stat and get better so I can be back to running ASAP. Two weeks off… seeing the Doc next week. Let’s get this annoying waiting period started.

Aaaaaand… the most important thing of the weekend. Good luck to everyone running THE BOSTON MARATHON on Monday. Rock it!!

Sticks are for Kids

Mama and Baby chillin on the coach. I basically had to chase the UPS guy down the street and almost jumped onto his truck for fear of missing my package! I can’t get deliveries at my place unless I’m at home between 2-5 in the afternoons (ok… so usually I am), but somehow I tend to miss UPS and FedEx all the time and then have to get the packages re-routed and all that annoying stuff.

Anyway. So psyched that this little baby arrived. Can’t wait to use it torture myself. I’ve been needing a travel size but instead decided to go with the little kiddie version since it was much smaller. Better for those ankles, knees and other ‘hard to reach’ places. Plus it will fit in my suitcase much better and not take up as much room. Maybe now I’ll actually be able to pack like a normal person instead of just throwing shit in my bag that I can’t wear and then having to wear sweatshirts all weekend. What… Myrtle Beach?

So let the bruised legs begin!! Actually looking forward to it 🙂

Stan Hates When the Plan gets F*ed

And by Stan I mean Ape. All set to ease back into running and starting my spring training for Lake Placid. The past few weeks I thought I was taking it slow and getting in a few long runs here and there. Not really pushing myself. Yeah well guess that went out the window. Birthday 11 miler and 13 on Friday equals a little bruised Achilles. Even something the Stick can’t cure overnight. Lots of ice for this little girl and the dreaded… dum, dum, dum…. REST! WTF!? Doing my research this morn…

One week of yoga and biking for me and then I’ll see how it feels next week. WORST case scenario. And no not, the game. But even four weeks off would still give me enough time to get some long runs in. I’m starting to think that this frantic quick marathon training plan isn’t exactly the best.

So what’s the real plan from here? Taking it easy this summer and that means short runs, hill work and speed work. There is no need to be doing 13 mile long runs in 1000degree weather with a broken rib (ie. last summer). Let’s not be too crazy here. Philly is in the back of my mind and so is BQ. So that means really running this summer with NO pressure. Cross training, lots of yoga and all that other crap 🙂

Yes so needless to say yesterday was not a good running day. I had some errands to run (and no, it wasn’t shopping this time) out in the boondocks so I decided to hit up Valley Forge on my way back into the city. Packed all my running gear up… and decided to take a few blurry phone camera pics.

Had a nice wholesome breakfast, yum!

And then hit the trail. LOVE, love, LOVE VForge. Not sure if it’s the hills or the serenity, or maybe the fact that there are no annoying bikers that you have to worry about. Either way this is one of my fav spots to run.

About 0.000001 miles into the run my heel hurt. Damn you Achilles!! I should have stopped and walked back to the car but instead I told myself I had to suck it up and do at least one loop. Pain, more pain and running 11 minute miles. Not cool and what is the point when I’m not getting anything out of it besides wrinkles on my forehead from making annoyed faces the whole time.

Here’s to a rest week…. (cry a river)

PS – I’ll also be taking a little blogging hiatus again this week do to some family issues and things going on. Hopefully be back better than ever SOON!

Say Goodbye to my 20’s

And bad habits. The Birthday week/extravaganza/excuseforeatingcrapanddrinkingeverynight is over. Fun times but I’m ready to get back to a nice routine again this week and eating healthy again. Oh yeah and drinking water instead of alcohol. I woke up yesterday morning and my lips were so dry it looked like I just ran a marathon through the sahara and post fueled up with 10 shots of patron. Not quite but I ran 13 on Friday and didn’t exactly hydrate well. Unless champagne counts.

What have I been doing this past week since I’m slacking on the blog front.

Lots of this…

Recovery…

Re-fuel…

And lots of fun. No documentation of that.

Lucky Lemons

Thinking about lemons a lot lately. Maybe I’ve had too many tequila shots recently. Need to kill that Don Julio from last year somehow…

“when life hands you lemons, you paint that shit gold”. True Story! This is my way of trying to get motivated today.

WORKOUT – JM, 1 hour bike

All I Want for my Birthday

Sorry guys… I’m only giving you a few days to shop so you better get on that.

No, seroiusly though all I really want for my 30th is to spend lots of fun times with family and friends!! Which I am already getting to do. Second… THIS – Donate!!!! But it’s always fun to dream…

VS Bathing Suit – x-small in Grape

Little Stick – Sticks are for kids! Yay, finally won’t have to shove mine in my suitcase

Supporting my Coffee Craze – “Mr. Coffee” recommends. Although he could be all talk since I never tasted his coffee… A,!?

Me Mizuno’s – 8.5 please… yes, I have big feet for running lots of miles

Vacation!! – craving one – yep, bratty

Why Not!? – since I’m being so realistic. Dream shopping is more fun then I thought.

A little piece of heaven – with you at all times. Love this! I have a fake one for now, but of course real is always better.

Marc-y Marc – and no not him – but yeah that would be pretty nice too!

I Drink Dirty Water

Hhm, do you think my Brita isn’t working right? Maybe it’s time to change the filter?

oooh, yummy!

Ok… I am gross, but I’m not that gross. Cayenne pepper. Not dirt. With lemon slices (although I kinda like it better without)… so good. Cayenne pepper – speeds metabolism, tastes good, clears out your sinuses… what more could you ask for. Everyone needs a little spice in their life! Drinking flavored aka non-boring water helps me to drink more throughout the day. This is my new fav flavor. HOT! 😉

Liebster Award

Instead of doing my taxes or something else productive I’m getting excited about this instead. 3ndurance hit me up with the Liebster award the other day, thanks dude!

The Liebster Award is described as follows:

This award we’ve discovered is given to bloggers who inspire you and have less than 200 followers. The Liebster Award takes its name from the German word meaning ‘Beloved, Dearest or Favorite.’

Here’s how it works:

  1. Link back to the person who gave it to you and thank them.
  2. Post the award to your blog.
  3. Give the award to 5 bloggers with less than 200 followers that you appreciate and value (It’s a great way to get the word out there about other blogs!!)
  4. Leave a comment on the 5 blogs to let them know that they have received this award.

3ndurance – again, thanks! I appreciate your inspiration, and the fact that you love chocolate. Too bad I didn’t know we were running Miami at the same time I would have had a Dove icecream bar and a Margarita waiting for you at the end. Oh wait – you finished way before me.

Side note: I occasionally get bored reading my own blog so the fact that almost 100 people read pretend they read it is amazing to me. And I’m pretty sure most of them are my family and friends since that’s the only way they can stay in touch with me since I’m awesome at returning phone calls.

I’m passing on the love…

drinkrunyoga – love her goals and positive attitude, oh yeah and the fact that she has ‘beer’ and ‘coffee’ as her two first categories listed. I’m pretty sure she has way more than 200 followers because she is much more insightful then myself. so good job to me for messing up the first award already.

Racing the States – just started her blog and already doing awesome! Love how she started running with Race for the Cure and does it every year ever since. Way to go… good cause. Plus her bucket list pretty much matches mine. LMK when you want to run Vegas!!

EliseLeet – girl is gorgeous, motivated AND running for a reason! She is battling Crohn’s Disease. Check out her page and support her.

Cotton T Runner – I like her attitude about connecting runners together no matter what your skill level or experience. Because, let’s face it… we ARE all crazy.

kyrunnergirl – First off… Nike ad on her front page. Like how she is still bragging about her first marathon – me too girl, and it’s been a year!

And I had to give a shout out to F2BF – pretty sure she has a ton of followers but I came across her blog the other day. I was typing and looked over and saw the same VS magazine with my coffee cup on it – exact same pic that she had on her home page. Anyway, she also does Turbo and a few other things I noticed we had in common right away. It’s always nice discovering there are other people out there just as cool as me 🙂
